A meeting with Grant Kirkhope

A meeting with Grant Kirkhope at a convention.

G: *sitting behind the desk staring into space*
K: Hi Mr. Kirkhope!
G: *wakes up* Oh hello.
K: U-um...Can you sign my Banjo-Kazooie game packs?
G: *raises eyebrow* Uh, sure... *pulls out sharpie* And...there you go.
K: *smiles* Wow, thank you! ^_^
G: No problem.
K: I really enjoy your music, I've been a huge fan of your since I was nine!
G:Oh really? *smiles* Why thank you!
K: I was excited to hear that you got your pieces orchestrated. I listened to them, they sound amazing!
G: Thanks! Yes, I was very a great experience getting the orchestra together. As much as I liked playing around with the old synthesizer, having real instruments playing my music really gave it an edge.
K: Indeed!
G: Well, so far you've been the one of few who have come to chat with me at this convention. What did you say your name was?
K: Oh-my name's Kayla!
G: It's a pleasure to meet you!
K: It's an honor to meet you! You're like my music hero! I have no idea why people aren't showing up over here.
G: Those are very kind words, but I'm no Koji Kondo...*sigh* I don't know. I guess I've just felt a little insecure about my compositions. It's getting harder to find inspiration. Maybe people can sense that.
K: Aw don't say that! There are so many fans of yours out there. You may not be as well known as Koji Kondo, but there are a lot of us who think you're better than him
G: Oh, I wouldn't say that...
K: No, I'm serious! Your style is an inspiration to all of us! The first thing that came to my mind when I played B-K was the music. When I was younger I use to play your music on the piano by ear. Heck, I still do it, and people always ask where the piece was from. Whenever I tell them it's from a video game, they're always shocked. There are even fans who enjoy your music so much, they make remix midis of them!
G: wow...I'm flattered. thank you, that means a lot to me. It's fans like you that inspire me to keep composing.

Auidience: Teens and up

Purpose: To show that all forms of music can be appreciated, even if they are from video games.

Grant Kirkhope is a musician who composes pieces for Rareware video games. His most well known work are from Goldeneye 007, Donkey Kong 64, Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie, and Conker's Bad Fur day. I love his music! ^_^
